Greetings all!!

update on Mr. Banks,

he was involved in a car accident on the morning of December 7th, after falling asleep while driving near his home in Sugar Point, Minnesota.

he suffered a compression fracture of the spine, and after being hospitalized will need to wear a brace for 6 weeks or more.

Dennis is doing better and is resting comfortably in a nearby hospital, as the dr. has ordered LOTS OF REST,

The family is asking for your prayers for a speedy recovery!

Update on Longest Walk

Greetings from Northern Minnesota!!

Hope all is well with everyone!! I am doing well on this end!! in good spirits and good health!

We will be post-poning THE LONG WALK TO REVERSE DIABETES 2010 from Huntington Beach, California to Washington DC. until 2011!!!
Reason being were gonna need more planning time.

Your words, time & support have been greatly appreciated, and we will keep all of the contact information we have received on file.

I am Back

I am back! Diabetes Free!!! The American Diabetes Association says theres no cure for Diabetes, but i am evidence there is a cure!! Before i entered the program in AZ i was confident that i would reverse the diabetes.
My first 7 days i was on a green juice fast. My sugar was 305. By the end of the first 7 days my sugar was 95 and remained between 75-85 during my stay. I lost 28 1/2 lbs. in 21 days!!! I was taken off all medications (i was on 9 different prescriptions)
I continue to walk my 2 – 5 miles daily, and i feel great.
My heart may give out but Diabetes will not claim my life. i need not worry about dialysis – amputation or confined to a wheel chair or oxygen.

Next February 14, 2010, Harry Goodwolf Kindness & I will begin walking across America to call attention to Diabetes and its affect on our communities. If you want to join us – see us at HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA FOR THIS MOST HISTORIC JOURNEY!!!

2009 Yamamoto Cup

Thank you to White Earth Reservation, Winona LaDuke, and Clyde BelleCourt for hosting the event. We had a great time and all the participants gave their best on the days of the races.

A special Congratulations to our event winners in the Boys and Girls Upper Divisions. Paris Nicazio, and Leanna Goose took first place for the girls, and Aaron Simon and Tyler Zima won in the boys division. As a first place prize they will be taking an all expense paid trip to Tokyo Japan in November.

Official Banks Family Statement -

Sunday, May 10, 2009 –

Our father Dennis James Banks had a heart attack on Friday, May 8, 2009. The exceptional medical staff at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix acted swiftly which resulted in his life being saved; the cardiac doctors performed a common heart procedure where two stints were placed into his main heart artery. On Saturday, he was transferred out of ICU and is expected to make a full recovery.

We are forever grateful to Vernon Foster, dad’s longtime friend, for taking care of dad and not leaving his side until the danger passed.

We also want to acknowledge the hundreds of calls and emails we have been receiving from around the world. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and … even the occasional joke to bring him a smile. We pass every single one of them on to him so thank you!

This year we have partnered with the White Earth Land Recovery Project to bring The Great Anishinabe Canoe Race to White Earth reservation. We are proud to be sharing this event with our new partners and together we hope to grow the canoe race even more.

Canoe Race Training Camp Dates: Aug. 11-14

Events include • Canoe Race Training • Basket Making • Talking Circles • Ojibwe Language Lessons • Sweat Ceremonies • Drum Making

Canoe Race Age Category & Awards:

10-12 & 13-15 years old : 6 miles Race / Medals & Cash Award

2008 Yamamoto Cup

This years race was in memory of Floyd Redcrow Westerman who went to the Sprit World this year. Floyd had been a long time supporter of the event, and this was the first time in 3 years that Floyd had not been here to bless our ceremony.

On August 2nd-3rd of 2008 the 7th Annual yamamoto Cup was held. This event was our largest ever with more than 80 racers competing for a grand prize of an all expense paid trip to Tokyo Japan. Ever year our winning racers travel to Japan to experience and share cultural traditions with the native Japanese people.

The race preparation began on August 3rd, at the Manomin House with a week long camp and preparation for the event. Racers were invited to come and participate in the camp. Durring the camp, racers would train durring the day as well as participate in talking ceremonies, Ojibwa language lessons, Drum making classes, sweat ceremonies, and also go through some basic water safety training. The camp was led by Wes and Darla. Thanks to everyone for your hard work!

A special thanks to Buffalo Child and Wes for leading the Water Safety Patrol for the 2008 race. Great job guys!
